Referring to previous correspondence on the subject of cattle lifting in the Ying Te District, I have the honour to inform you that I am now in receipt of the following report from the Ying Tê Hsien, Hr. Lü.

"Upon hearing of the robbery of a cattle boat on the river at Lan Pang Tan in this District on the night of the 6th October, I at once sent in pursuit of the robbers, and summoned the person robbed to make his statement and take the officers of the law to the scene of the crime to make inspection. In due course I received Your Excellency's instructions embodying the Consul's despatch and ordering me to deal with the case, in obedience to which I urged the military and police to further efforts for the arrest of the thieves and the recovery of the booty.
